Calling All Puppetistas!
Southwest Weekend of Witness to Stop Torture
November 15, 2008 – Tucson, AZ
November 16, 2008 – Sierra Vista/Ft Huachuca, AZ
Nina Kunimoto and Debbi McCullough are working on a visual project for this year’s demonstration in Sierra Vista, AZ, to stop torture. Their concept is transformation: a large “caterpillar” that participants will help evolve by opening it from the caterpillar will emerge several butterflies.
These two artists are currently working on details of design and are looking for volunteers. We will probably need 10-15 people to work with them. This concept represents not only transformation but hope that beauty emerges from struggle. The butterflies will be monarchs. The monarchs migrate from southern Mexico every year. They remind us of the peoples to the south of us who must leave their homes and head to the US because of the extreme conditions that confront them, but unlike the butterflies, we do not welcome them.
