Peacekeepers Needed

For 4th Annual Southwest Weekend of Witness
Protest Against Torture / Ft Huachuca, AZ

Can you help?!

Are you committed to nonviolence, and would like to join with others to help facilitate a nonviolent and effective demonstration? On Sunday, November 16, there will be a nonviolent protest against torture at Ft. Huachuca – home of USAICS, the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School. The protest is in solidarity with the demonstration the following week to close the School of the Americas – now the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation – at Ft. Benning, GA.

The protest will start with a rally at a Sierra Vista, Arizona park with speakers and music, followed by a procession to the main gate of Ft. Huachuca, where a vigil will take place across the street.

Some of the things peacekeepers are responsible for:

  • Providing information to demonstrators
  • Handling conflict
  • Helping people who need assistance
  • Carrying bandaids, sunscreen, etc
  • Directing traffic
  • Helping to maintain the nonviolent self-discipline of the demonstration
  • Mediating with authorities if needed

Peacekeeper training will be provided in Tucson in October. For more information, email Sterling or call him at 520.327.6768. If you’re interested in volunteering, please send Sterling your name, email address, phone number and city you’re from.

Thanks!
